What this site is
SME Solar (smesolar.co.uk) is an independent UK publication about commercial solar for small and medium-sized businesses, written and edited by Gareth Isherwood. We publish a savings calculator, plain-English guides and a free monthly email, the Brief. We don't install solar, broker installations or pass your details to installers.
Information, not advice
Everything here is general information to help you understand the numbers and ask better questions. It isn't financial, tax, legal or engineering advice, and it isn't a quote. Check anything important with a qualified adviser, and with your installer, before you commit.
The calculator
The calculator gives indicative figures based on UK averages and the assumptions set out on How it works. They are not a quote and not a promise of savings. Real figures come from an installer after a site survey.
How the site is paid for
Display advertising, a single Featured Partner (one MCS-accredited installer paying a flat monthly fee; we don't take per-lead or per-quote fees), and affiliate links, which are always marked. The details are on How it works.
Installers and other businesses
If you contact or hire an installer, including our Featured Partner, your contract is with them, not with us. The Featured Partner has to meet the criteria on the Featured Partnerpage when it joins, but we can't guarantee any installer's work, prices or availability, and disputes are between you and them.
Links to other sites
We link to other websites, including through affiliate links. We aren't responsible for their content, their offers or how they handle your data.
Accuracy
We source our figures, date our guides and correct mistakes when we find them, but rates and rules change. If something looks wrong, please tell us.
Using the site and our content
Please don't scrape the site in bulk, misuse the subscribe form or try to disrupt the site. The guides, calculator and design are ours: you're welcome to quote a short extract with a link back, but please ask before republishing anything in full.
Liability
As far as the law allows, we aren't liable for losses that come from using the site or relying on its figures. Nothing in these terms limits any liability that can't be limited by law.
